| My very good friend, Megan
Dowdy (now Megan Mueller), asked me to be a bridesmaid in her
wedding in the Spring of 2006. Not only did she ask me to be in
her wedding, but she also asked me to make the earrings for all
the bridesmaids for their presents, as well as, her bridal
earrings. I was so thrilled that she wanted me to help her with
her wedding jewelry! As we discussed the wedding in more detail,
Megan explained that the wedding was going to be at the beach
and would have a semi-casual setting. I had the overall feel of
the wedding and just needed some pictures really get my designs going... |

To help me design the bridesmaid
earrings, Megan emailed me a picture of the dress she had picked
out. It was a pretty, flowing, turquoise strapless dress
with a simple white tie and matching flower. You can see the actual picture she sent me
by clicking here. I wanted to keep the
design simple to stay in line with the "casual" feel of the wedding, and I really wanted to design something that would
compliment the dresses rather than distract from them. I decided to go with simple drop earrings to stay in line with
the elegant feel of the dresses. I used white Swarovski crystal teardrop shaped pearls and accented them with small
Swarovski crystal bicones in aquamarine to pull out the color of the dresses. I used sterling french earwires, as those
seem to the most popular type of earring component.
The girls got their earrings at the bridal luncheon the Saturday
of the wedding and they loved them! With such a simple
design, they were sure to get great use out of the earrings, even
after the wedding! |

Megan was given her grandmother's lavaliere necklace to wear on her wedding day. She emailed me the photo of the necklace
and asked me if I could make something to match it. Click here
to see the photo she sent me. I said, "Of course I can!" and started brainstorming earring designs.
I thought it would be cute if I did a play on the bridesmaid
earrings, while giving them a little something extra to make
them super special. I noticed that the necklace had pearls and
either crystals or diamonds in it. The base for my
design was the same as the bridesmaid earrings - drop earrings
with crystal pearls
and bicones - except the bicone in this design would be
clear. While looking at the lavaliere, I noticed that there was a lot of silver work, so I decided to add
a crystal rondelle to the earring design to get a little bit more silver into the overall look
and add some extra sparkle.
The earrings turned out beautifully, and Megan loved them! |
